@jimmylovestea @CanvasLMS @Blackboard @moodle 2/n First, the data export from the gradebook is insane. 1st row: (terrible) variable names, 2nd (incomplete) row: point totals, THEN the actual data begins. I’m writing a data cleaning script, but for my midterm grades I had to use the embedded gradebook.

@jimmylovestea @CanvasLMS @Blackboard @moodle 3/n Then, the embedded gradebook is super glitchy on chrome. Grades and names jump around as you scroll, to the point that I had to print out my gradebook to see it properly. But… no print interface.

@jimmylovestea @CanvasLMS @Blackboard @moodle 4/n If you change the point total for an assignment, it rescales all currently-graded assignments properly, but anything that gets submitted after that point gets rescaled wrong.

@jimmylovestea @CanvasLMS @Blackboard @moodle 5/n There seems to be no way to change the order of assignments in the gradebook. Mine are *mostly* ordered by category, but the last four are by due date.

@jimmylovestea @CanvasLMS @Blackboard @moodle 6/n If you have a category with many assignments that haven't been submitted yet, it calculates the grade total as if the (one, one-point assignment) that has already been submitted is the entire category, instead of looking at the overall category total.

@jimmylovestea @CanvasLMS @Blackboard @moodle 7/n They've gone publish-button wild! If I share a file with students, I need to hit "publish" in at least three places (folder containing the file, the file itself, and the module the file is in). If I miss one, it's invisible to them, and there's no interface warning.

@jimmylovestea @CanvasLMS @Blackboard @moodle 8/8 And don't even get me started on the iPad app. You can't see GRADES or MODULES, the two most useful parts of Canvas. Aaaaargh!

@jimmylovestea @CanvasLMS @Blackboard @moodle Okay, we can now cross off the MODULES part of my rant-- the new version of the app includes them! https://community.canvaslms.com/docs/DOC-16666

@AmeliaMN

@jimmylovestea @CanvasLMS @Blackboard @moodle And we're back with more rant! If you write an exam with some questions that are autograded and others that have to be graded by hand, when students submit their exam they automatically see their score on just the autograded questions, out of the entire point total.

@AmeliaMN

@jimmylovestea @CanvasLMS @Blackboard @moodle So say you write an exam with 100 points, 58 of them autograded and the other 42 to be hand-graded. If a student gets 32/58 autograded questions right, when they submit the exam they see a 32/100 in the gradebook. This (understandably!) causes panic.
